Originally scheduled for 30 half-hour episodes, the 2007 Writers Guild strike caused disruption for the fourth seaons of the American version of The Office. Thankfully this is made up for with 5 excellent 1 hour-long episodes, together with 9 half-hour episodes.

The fourth season of The Office An American Workplace is arguably one of the best seasons to date. The show has well and truly established itself in it's own right, away from the comparisons with the original British show, and the character development in this season is superb.

Without wanting to give too much away, Jim and Pam are finally together and happily dating, Jan is forced to move in with Michael following her unsuccessful legal case against Dundler Mifflin and Ryan takes a step up the corporate ladder to the New York head office. The confidence of the actors in their characters really shows through in this season, with hilarious moments both in the original Scranton branch and locations further afield.

The fourth season received excellent feedback from critics in the States, alongside excellent ratings of over 9 million for many of the episodes. The brilliant 'Goodbye, Toby' finale, was also responsible for the 'Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series' award nomination at the Emmys.

If you was a fan of the first three seasons, this DVD box set is an essential purchase, here's hoping the fifth season box set is not too far away!
