The Inbetweeners - Series 1 to 3 Complete DVD Box Set
E4’s hilarious school boy comedy, “The Inbetweeners”, has finally released what their fans have been waiting for- a complete box set of seasons one to three!
The box set compromises all the episodes from the three seasons of the hit show following the antics of the nerdy Will (Simon Bird), hopeless romantic Simon (Joe Thomas), simple yet oddly lovable Neil (Blake Harrison) and would-be ladies man Jay (James Buckley) all played with amazing vigour and gusto by four budding young actors whom we can all relate to- after all, we all suffered the trials and tribulations of high school ourselves once!
The story follows Will on his first day at a comprehensive school after his mother (the gorgeous Belinda Stewart-Wilson) divorces from his father and can no longer afford the fees for his private school. After being given a humiliatingly large badge proclaiming his newbie status Will, and his infamous briefcase, are forced onto Simon and his friends. What follows is a hilarious collection of episodes as Will tries desperately to shed his public school boy image and stop his new friends hitting on his mother. The other boys have their shining moments too, with Jay’s imaginary conquests with the Caravan club, Simon’s hopeless crush on Carli D’amato and Neil’s just plain hopelessness.
And it’s not just the main characters that get the limelight. Comedian, Greg Davies is a riot as the couldn’t-care-less principal Gilbert and watching him go out of his way to make Will’s life difficult brings some of the biggest laugh- especially in the fashion show episode in season 3. Plus there are excellent performances from the parents of all the boys being the typical parents that all teenage boys’ hate- far too interfering when it comes to girls and not giving enough when it comes to cash!
The show is like a mixture of American Pie and Grange Hill, and if you can stand some of the language and the more... interesting scenes (watch out for Simon’s very revealing performance in the charity fashion show with Carli) and the repeated references to bodily functions you’re guaranteed to love it. There are so many quotes to be taken from it that are instantly recognisable and recently they even released a few T-shirts to link in with their growing merchandise range.
In addition to the episodes, there is around 2 hours of extras including commentaries from the cast- delivered with their typical comic flair- interviews and some behind the scenes features which give a great insight into the making of the show and the relationships between the cast.
