Set in Middle Earth, powerful lord Sauron has bought together the forces of evil to snuff out civilisation and cover the world in darkness. All he needs to accomplish his vision is a ring that has been lost for centuries.

In The Fellowship of the Ring, ring-holder Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) sets out to destroy the ring and free the world from Sauron’s grasp. An alliance is formed by Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen), Samwise (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monaghan), Pippin (Billy Boyd), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean) to assist Frodo in his quest.

Sequel The Twin Towers finds the Fellowship divided, with each group following different paths to defeat Sauron and his allies. Frodo and friends head towards Sauron’s fortress at Barad-dur in Mordor, while Aragorn and allies head to Orthanc Tower in Isendard.

The final film in the trilogy, Return of the King, sees Sam and Frodo approach Mount Doom in an attempt to destroy the ring while the other members of the fellowship prepare for the final battle of Middle Earth.
