When this decade is assessed from the vantage point of ‘the future’, it is highly likely that ‘Peep Show will be regarded as one of the defining shows of the era. Focusing on the travails of two wildly-differing twenty-somethings and their various cohorts, Peep Show is both an inspired and scathing satire on this generation, and incredibly funny.

Mark and Jeremy (David Mitchell and Robert Webb) have somehow ended up ‘sharing’ a flat together despite having pretty much nothing in common other than their ability to make bad life choices and never learn from them. The relationship between the two is utterly brilliant (they are of course a double act outside of this show). On one level, it is simply extremely funny to see Mark get increasingly wound up at Jeremy’s lackadaisical approach to life, which runs the full gamut from not paying the rent right up to poisoning his flatmate so he can have a ‘magic mushroom’ night in the living room.

However, the double act also allows writers Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong to skewer both the do-nothing, faux-right-on attitude of the current middle-class under-30s generation (as exemplified by Jeremy) and its counterpoint; the career-minded, buttoned down world of Mark that leads him to consider a loveless marriage at the thought of gaining some prime real estate. On top of this social commentary, we also get to enjoy seeing Jeremy soil himself in a church, Mark jump around like an idiot at a new-age dance group and the scene-stealing excesses of the drug-addled Super Hans (Matt King).

Breaking the cliché that British comedies should restrict themselves to two series’ to maintain quality, ‘Peep Show’ has gone from strength-to-strength over its six outings. This box set contains every episode from those series, as well as episode commentaries, behind the scenes extras and deleted and additional scenes.
